Our team left Bukuru Low-Cost, Jos at noon for the 86 km journey to Horep. We went without supplies on this first visit. Instead, we carried listening ears, open hearts, and a commitment to understand the people behind the displacement figures.

Expanding Our Reach: The Platform Foundation’s Commitment to Children with Learning Disabilities At The Platform Foundation, our work has always been rooted in a simple conviction: every child carries untapped potential, and every community grows stronger when that potential is nurtured. For years, we have focused on education, empowerment, and relief for children and families in underserved communities. As our impact deepens, we are widening our scope to include one group that has often been overlooked yet deserves intentional, compassionate support — children with learning disabilities. Why This Matters Now Across many communities, children with learning disabilities struggle in silence. They sit in classrooms where teachers lack the training to interpret their needs. Many face stigma, isolation, and the burden of being misunderstood. In rural areas, where educational disparities are already severe, these challenges become even more pronounced. For us, ignoring this gap would contradict the very essence of what we stand for. Education without inclusion becomes a privilege for a few, rather than a pathway for all. Our desire is not just to provide access, but to ensure that access is meaningful, adaptive, and affirming. Our Vision for Inclusion We are working to build programmes that honor each child’s unique learning profile. This includes developing literacy and numeracy interventions tailored for children who learn differently, training teachers to recognize early signs of common learning disabilities, and creating safe spaces where learners feel encouraged rather than embarrassed by their pace of progress. This commitment fits naturally within our existing work. Our literacy campaigns, creative arts academy, vocational pathways, and relief missions all benefit when we widen the circle to include every child — not just those who meet conventional expectations. An inclusive approach enriches the entire community, because it teaches empathy, patience, and respect for individual differences. A Holistic Approach The Platform Foundation has always taken a three-fold approach: spiritual, psychological, and mental development. These pillars guide our inclusive vision as well. Spiritually, we affirm the dignity of every child, recognizing that God has placed value in each one, regardless of ability. Psychologically, we support children and families by helping them understand that learning differences are not deficits. They simply require the right environment and resources. Mentally, we continue to champion knowledge, training, and evidence-based strategies that help children thrive. This holistic framework allows us to address not only the academic needs of these children, but also their emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging. Moving Forward Together Caring for children with learning disabilities is not a side project. It is a strategic expansion of our mission to raise a responsible generation. We envision a future where parents feel supported, teachers feel equipped, and every child — regardless of reading speed, memory challenges, or processing differences — can proudly take their place in society. Our commitment is clear. We are building stronger foundations, and inclusion must be one of them. As we move into this new chapter, we welcome partnerships, volunteers, and supporters who share this vision. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind, and that every learner has a chance to rise.

 

When disaster strikes, we see the strength of a community tested. Hurti, a quiet farming village in Bokkos Local Government Area, was shaken to its core this April when violent attacks tore through the community, leaving more than fifty people dead, dozens injured and homes reduced to ashes. The attackers destroyed barns and grain stores, wiping out food supplies and livelihoods. Survivors describe gunshots ringing from every direction, neighbours climbing trees and crouching in bushes to escape, only to emerge to see loved ones gone and their village burning.
